The New East Cultural Institute invites you to the opening of Alexandra Lemke's exhibition “About us”. The work “About Us” is a powerful commentary on intersectionality, highlighting the complexity of belonging to multiple marginalized communities and exacerbating experiences of racism, homophobia and transphobia.
The project highlights the lives and struggles of QBIPOC (Queer, Black, Indigenous, People of Color) people in Finland, challenging widespread assumptions and highlighting the reality of discrimination faced by those who belong to both ethnic, sexual or gender minorities.
In this exhibition, Lemke's sensitive and striking portraits take up a space often denied to QBIPOC people, reinforcing their rightful place in Finnish society. Through her lens, the models tell their own stories, inviting viewers into a shared moment of vulnerability, resilience and non-apologetic self-expression.
